Sing! Ultimate A Cappella

Sing! Ultimate A Cappella

Sing! Ultimate A Cappella was shot at the Troxy Theatre in East London, across the Summer of 2017. Although shows like Pitch Battle had already begun to popularise mainstream A Cappella, Sing! was the first show to feature only human made sounds, and not a single instrument used all series.

Each episode features 5 unique acts. 2 acts are knocked out in the first round, then another, and another, to leave one group victorious. There are 7 episodes in the heats, each show producing a winner. The final featured all 7 winners, battling it out to be the Ultimate A Cappella Champion.

For this show I began as a 'Group Runner', looking after a different A Cappella group each episode. This involved getting anywhere from 5 to 25 people through rehearsals, hair, make up and ultimate through sound and on stage for the live show! The program was presented by Cat Deeley, and featured a different celebrity guest or guests per episode. From Union J and JP Cooper to Midge Ure and Gregory Porter, the star studded line up made Sing! one of most watched music shows of the year!

By the time the shows began to record, I changed roles and began working as a Junior AFM, assisting the floor managers and helping to run the show. This increase in responsibility and refreshing change of pace kept me rushed off my feet, but loving every minute!

Luckily, each of the 5 'Group Runners' began a sweep stake at the beginning of the week, to see who would have the most winners! Fortunately for me, I won 5 out of 7 shows, and savoured my winning half pint at the pub with great smugness!

"Mitch was in charge of looking after talent groups throughout the show, which meant that he was often working some of the longest hours that were required. Despite this, he was always really enthusiastic and had a happy face on set every day. I felt completely at ease leaving him in charge, knowing that I could trust him to keep everything running smoothly. I received great feedback about him, Mitch is incredibly reliable and I wouldn’t hesitate to hire him again."
